Exploring the climate of the ENSA Nantes and is neighborhood

The master workshop Ambiances and urban forms of the year 2023 focused on exploring the climatic dimensions of architecture and public space. Starting from their own experiences of urban climate, they traced a path that started or ended at the ENSA Nantes building and explored climatic gradients in relation to different architectural and urban designs. 26 students, working in 6 groups, had the opportunity to participate in climate measurement campaigns with our climate cart. They then learned how to import and visualise such specific data in QGIS (cartographic approach) and Rhino (3D approach). In parallel, they also learned how to analyse and interpret climate records at the body level and their relationship to space and time. Finally, they worked together to create a representation of the climatic experience of space that was tailored to each group’s goals. In doing so, we strongly encouraged students to explore parallel survey methods to create richer formats that evidence the global experience of space in which climate plays a crucial role.

You can see the results of their work hereafter.
